Paper Diamond (with Protohype & Crizzly) — The Ogden Theater, Denver

I love to support a local artist. I have been keeping up with Paper Diamond for the past year or so. I listened to his music and downloaded whenever he had new stuff out. I couldn’t pass up the chance to see him at the Ogden. It’s one of my favorite venues in Denver and I know it was a special event for him. I was pretty excited for the openers. I hadn’t seen all 3 of these artists, which made this whole show dance worthy. The Night Vision tour kick off was a success if you ask me!

Over the past few months Protohype has gained a lot of recognition. I didn’t know much about him, but knowing that Paper Diamond is a great artist I figured he wouldn’t disappoint with his openers. I was impressed with his style and set. I love getting to hear artists for the first time live because I tend to enjoy their music more in the long run. His set was awesome and he was a fun warm up to Crizzly. I hope that many people have taken the time to listen to Protohype. He was at the Bluebird Theater. I wasn’t able to make it to the show, but from what I hear it was great. If anyone was able to attend I would love to hear about it.

I have a new found love for trap and dubstep. Crizzly is one of the first people I was introduced to in this genre and I immediately fell in love. So many people were anticipating his set. I saw about 15 minutes of his set at GDF, so it was great to see the whole thing this time. His crunkstep style was exploding with sound and had the whole crowd going wild. When he played “Chain Hang Low” everyone started jumping and getting rowdy. There is a lot of potential and great things to come from Crizzly this next year. This was just one of those breakout moments that truly exposed him for the young talent he is.

The anticipation for Paper Diamond was built. Waiting for him to come on was awesome I was amped up because of Crizzly’s performance. He premiered his new visual set at the Ogden and OH MY GOD it was so much more than I had expected. It was beautiful. As you can see there were lights every where. Paper Diamond has come A LONG way since I started listening to him.

He played a lot of new trap style music that is soon to be released. He kept his “Paper Diamond” style while remixing other songs, playing some of his classics, and throwing in a delicate trap style that followed Crizzly and Protohype’s performance really well. A beautiful set, light show, and music were all a part of this show. I had a lot more fun than I expected. All three of these artists have exposed themselves well and 2013 is going to be a great year for them. They are going to be getting the recognition they deserve.

Paper Diamond has added a CO tour date before leaving for the Excision tour. January 5th he will be performing at Belly Up in Aspen.
